:: This little “Snack Attack!” game is a fun way to take the grumble out of traveling with littles, while reminding them of some favorite Bible stories.
How it works
These DIY grumble-crushing bags are a simple way to help your adult kids avoid the all-too-familiar (and exhausting) “Are we there yet?” hitting them in the back of the head as they travel.
Their parent(s) get to decide on a certain amount of time (30 minutes, 3 hours…whatever seems appropriate for the distance of their trip) and then set an alarm for that time. When the alarm goes off, the kids get to open a bag with a snack or activity. BUT WAIT….if they grumble or complain before the timer goes off, it just might start over…YIKES! (At the end of this post, see a video of the bags in action and download everything you need to get started.)
STEP ONE: Shop
- Fish Crackers
- Bugles
- Pretzel Sticks
- Gummy Life Savers
- M&Ms
- Zipoc sandwich bags
- Paper lunch sacks
- One large bag
STEP TWO: Print
Print one set of labels for each child and cut apart. When trimmed, these labels fit perfectly inside the snack-sized zipper bags. A link to the free download is at the end of this post.
STEP THREE: Fill the bags
Print and insert label for each snack in zipper bag…one for each child.
STEP FOUR: Pack it all up!
Put the snack bags into paper lunch sacks or grocery bags and number each sack. (see the *Optional* note below)
Put all the sacks into one large gift bag or garbage bag with “Let’s play a little snack game” directions. This is the bag your grandkids can take in the car.
STEP FIVE: Deliver!
If you live close by, deliver the “Snack Attack!” bags in person. If far away, drop them in the mail with plenty of time to get there before they leave on their trip.
