This prayer page is a great way to keep your little turkeys busy while you put the final touches on the Thanksgiving feast. It is also a great way to model the importance of praying about our lives and the things we’re thankful for…not just the things we want.
Last week, I did a trial run with two of our granddaughters, ages 8 and 10. We sat at the table with our turkey prayer pages, a bag of freshly sharpened colored pencils, and a battery operated sharpener – which was way more cool than I expected. 😉
As we choose our first colors, I explained that the goal of the page is to talk to God about the topics as we color each space.
“Wait. Talk to him? That’s weird.”
I must admit. I was shocked. These girls have heard and said prayers their whole lives, but the idea that prayer is the same thing as “talking to God” was obviously a revelation. And their reaction was a great reminder for this grandma; a reminder that the ordinary, unremarkable moments we spend with our family should always include Jesus.
It doesn’t mean we should preach sermons or do extravagant things that may alienate some family members. But we do need to be authentic with our faith…sprinkling salt; not dumping it.
Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7
This coloring page gives you the opportunity to model what it sounds like to “talk to God” about family, teachers, and friends…about forgiving and asking for forgiveness…about our hopes for the future…about having a thankful heart.
Simply download your free copy and print one for each of your little turkeys. Have some sharpened colored pencils on hand and (for the biggest hit) grab a battery operated sharpener.
