The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. So, it’s time. Not to dig out the shovel and hose, but to intentionally sow God’s Word into my days. For decades, I’ve craved his Word and searched for deeper, historical understanding behind the stories I learned in Sunday School. But to be completely transparent, my cravings for his Word have been a bit like the cravings of pregnancy.
Nine months. Pause. Nine months. Pause. Get the picture?
I seem to be either “all in” or totally distracted. Life gets crazy and days get consumed with things that have little (or no) eternal value. Fun things. Creative things. A whole bunch of things. And suddenly, it’s been embarrassingly long since I sat at my table and consumed God’s Word with an undivided heart. It’s an ongoing war…..a war that brings me to this battlefield.
What this Loving God’s Word page is NOT:
- It’s not a promise to study the Bible every day for hours.
- It’s not a place to find deep analysis of scripture.
- It’s not a public display of spiritual maturity.
- And it’s not a program for reading scripture.
What this Loving God’s Word page IS:
- It’s a promise to keep God’s Truth at the center of….well, of everything.
- It’s a place to reflect on how His Word encourages wives, moms, and grandmas.
- It’s a public profession that His Word is “living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit….able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
- And it’s a progressive – though perhaps haphazard – journey through the Bible.
What to Expect
Hmmmm. I’m not a huge fan of expectations because they so often disappoint. And that’s the very opposite of the purpose for this page. All I can say is that I’m beginning a chronological journey through scripture – from Genesis to Revelation – and I really don’t know if it will take me one year or ten. I’m not sure if I’ll post about every chapter or even every book. And I’m not even sure how often content will be added. Great strategy, right? I mean honestly, it goes against every “how to have a successful website” article I’ve read.
But here’s the thing. The Laughing Grandma journey is not about sales or marketing plans. It’s simply about sharing content that brings glory to God and honors our roles as wives, moms, and grandmas.
The only thing I am sure of is that I need to be in God’s Word consistently and that every time I am, He encourages me. As Paul wrote to the Philippians, “If there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit…make my joy complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit…” Philippians 2:1-3
Simply put, when God’s Truth connects to our unique purpose as women, then I will joyfully share it so we can be encouraged together.
Logistically speaking
Each book will have only one “Post” and encouragement from its chapters will be added to that post as I read. I promise that the final entry for each book will be made clear so you will know I’ve finished and moved to the next book….though who knows how long it will take! 😉
God’s Word is the only thing in this world that we can truly trust. It’s pure. It’s holy. And it’s medicine to our souls. Please join me on this chronological journey through God’s Word. So glad you’re here!
Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
